Tomoil compressor oil: ISO grades and the VDL range
Two compressor oil lines from ISO VG 32 to 320, supplied from Turkey in drums and IBCs. A screw compressor and a piston compressor do not necessarily take the same oil: the grade follows the compressor maker's specification and the discharge temperature, not the viscosity of the drum that was there before.

Choosing the grade

Start from the compressor type and the maker's data sheet: screw and piston compressors have different oil requirements, and the maker states the class and viscosity the machine is approved for.

Take the discharge temperature the compressor actually runs at, not the nameplate figure. A machine working near its upper temperature asks more of the oil than the same model in a cool plant room.

Match the ISO VG to the window the maker gives for that temperature, and check whether the machine is specified for a VDL oil before settling on a grade.

Compressor oils are supplied in 208 litre drums and in 1,000 litre IBCs. Export orders leave Turkey by container. Send the compressor details and the grade you need, and we reply with a quotation and the data sheet.

What is a VDL compressor oil?
VDL is the letter code DIN 51506 uses for air compressor lubricating oils. Tomoil Compressor Oil is stocked in ISO VG 32 to 320 and the Compressor Oil VDL range from VDL 46 to VDL 320; which grade a screw or piston compressor needs follows the compressor maker's specification.
Do screw and piston compressors take the same oil?
Not necessarily. The two run at different temperatures and load patterns, and the maker specifies the class and viscosity for each machine. Send us the compressor make, model and the oil currently in service and we will state which grade in the range answers it.
Do you have an equivalent of the compressor oil we use now?
We do not publish equivalence tables: the same viscosity number on two labels does not make two oils interchangeable. Send the data sheet of the oil in service, or the compressor details and the discharge temperature, and we will state which Tomoil grade meets the same specification.
